The Mets’ playoff odds expose a sad National League truth

PHILADELPHIA — Well beyond Fangraphs’ surprisingly joyous assessment of the mercurial Mets’ playoff odds — somehow, they’re up to 93.6 percent! — there exists at least a couple of real reasons to feel decent today even about their World Series chances.

The first and most obvious reason is, of course, that trio of promising kid pitchers Mets higher-ups summoned due to abject necessity (and the kids’ overwhelming minor league numbers). Not only are the precocious triumvirate of Jonah Tong, Brandon Sproat and especially that magical spinmeister Nolan McLean likely going to keep them in playoff position, they may wind up comprising the majority of a workable postseason rotation because the guts of the original very veteran starting group appears all but cooked.

But here’s the other big reason. The National League ain’t what it was cracked up to be.

Yep, sorry about that.
