Pragya originated from a Punjabi family in Ambala, Haryana and her father served in the Army. He was posted in Chennai and this is how Pragya got her first exposure to the Tamil film industry.
Pragya was pursuing her Engineering Degree in New Delhi when she developed an interest in modelling. She has acted in more than 100 commercials and was a member of the National Cadet Corps. She also wanted to join the Indian army like her father but ultimately chose a career in acting
