Florida player spits on South Florida opponent in costly sequence

This college football player got some inspiration from Jalen Carter’s altercation with Dak Prescott — and it might’ve cost his team the win.

Late in the fourth quarter of Saturday’s game between Florida and South Florida, Gators defensive tackle Brendan Bett was seen spitting on Bulls offensive lineman Cole Skinner late in the fourth quarter.

Following a rushing play from South Florida, Bett got up to confront Skinner and hocked a loogie in his face.

Skinner pushed Bett in response before the referees threw the flags.

Bett was hit with an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty and was ejected for the spitting, with South Florida earning a free 15 yards.

On the very next play, the Bulls completed a 29-yard pass to get themselves into field goal range with 1:54 left in the game.

After running out the clock, South Florida kicker Nico Gramatica sunk a 20-yard field goal to win the game, 18-16, over the Gators.

The spit between Carter and Prescott happened just three days prior, but their altercation had less of an impact on the game itself.

Despite Carter getting hit with the ejection during Thursday’s game between the two NFC East teams, video shown later showed that Prescott apparently spat on the defensive tackle first.

Prescott, however, insisted that the entire situation was just a misunderstanding, claiming that he had to spit while talking to Cowboys offensive lineman Tyler Booker.

“I actually said words like, ‘Why the hell would I’ — excuse me, but probably even more colorful — ‘What would I need to spit on you for?’ He just spit on me in that moment, it was more of a surprise than anything,” Prescott said, according to Pro Football Talk.

Carter apologized following the incident, saying that, “It won’t happen again.”

The NFL is reportedly going to investigate the situation further, according to NFL Network.
